Day 21: January 28, 2024
Planting More Seed for More Harvest
Passage: 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
Ponder: Across the United States, every winter, 500,000 young men play High School basketball. Only 0.02 percent go onto play in the NBA. There are many of reasons more don’t make it. Those who play simply for the letterman’s jacket don’t go far. Those who play because it’s fun, but have other career ambitions, obviously don’t continue on. And then there’s those who just want to get their picture on another page of the yearbook. Well, we don’t know what they become, but it certainly isn’t an NBA all-star. The small percent who are honored to take to the court in the NBA were set apart from the others, not only by talent, but by sowing a lot of blood, sweat and tears. They kept shooting hoops while others hit the shower. They hit the weight room while others ate dinner. They sowed into becoming good at basketball. And on NBA draft day, they reaped the joy and honor they had been sowing into for years.
The law of sowing and reaping is simply one of God’s unchanging principles. Earth operates from the principle of sowing and reaping. We are provided with sustenance via sowing and reaping. In God’s economy, we are blessed based on sowing and reaping. We even reap peace and love out of the effort of love and peacemaking we sow. The more you sow, the more you reap. One watermelon seed can produce 3-4 watermelons. Each containing up to 200 more seeds. Your watermelon supply has just increased substantially. This is what Paul is speaking about as God’s grace abounds to us as we sow financially into God’s work. In practicing the principle of sowing and reaping into God’s work, we are assured we have sufficient resource ourselves and a harvest of abundance to continue doing His work. Plant the seeds for Kingdom growth and ready yourself for the abundant harvest.
Practice: What ministry or work for the Lord moves your heart as you see how it touches others’ lives? Ask Him what He would want you to sow into that ministry, and of course, respond with obedience.
Pray: Lord, you are my Provider, and I thank you that you have always been faithful to supply for my needs and even many of my wants. I want to be faithful with the resources you give as a good steward. Beyond giving to you your tithe, how and where would you want me to sow some seed for your Kingdom’s advancement? AMEN.
