Harvest Devotional Day 11

Day 11: January 18, 2024

Plant the Seed of Faith

Passage: Matthew 21:20-22
When the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither at once?” 21 And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. 22 And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

Ponder: When you were a child, and you asked your mother for a snack from the pantry, do you remember what she would say? I’ll help you out; she probably responded with, “What’s the magic word?” Early in life you began to realize that saying “please” was imperative to asking and receiving. Then there were two other magic words that would keep the door open to further receiving - “thank you.” As you grew into adulthood, it was then to be expected that you would have the right attitude whenever asking. These words express not only appreciation, but recognition and respect to the one who is able to meet the request you are making.

Make no mistake about it; Jesus isn’t offering you a magic word when it comes to approaching Him and receiving from Him. But He is offering you a lesson on the attitude that unlocks the doors to God’s power and provision for you. That attitude is faith. Faith is the attitude you have towards God. It’s an attitude of the head, in which you know God possesses all power and dominion, and He can do anything, at any time, in any way He so pleases. And faith is a heart attitude, trusting that what He does in response to your faith is exactly what you need, when and where you need it. In fact, Jesus is very matter-a-fact that faith is imperative to receiving miraculous kingdom provision, opportunities, and answers to prayer. Plant the seeds of faith, ask, and trust what you know to be true about Him. And be sure to practice what your momma taught you and say, “thank you.”

Practice: How will you express the attitude of faith in God today? What may need to change in your thinking about God, or your trust in Him for your faith to grow today?

Pray: Father in Heaven, I believe that there is nothing impossible for you. And I know that I can trust you in everything that concerns me. I also know that sometimes I wane in being convinced of what I believe. Help me bring my thoughts captive into proper agreement with You, your Word, and your will. I know all things are possible with you. Amen.

Every seed we plant takes time to grow, mature and ripen before the harvest. Some types of lettuce can be harvested in 40 to 50 days while it can take 2 to 3 years to harvest asparagus. While we may harvest some spiritual seeds quickly others may take many years to mature and ripen. So glad God never gives up on us!
