Harvest Devotional Day 1

Day 1: January 8, 2024

Planting The Seeds of Love

Passage: 1 Corinthians 16:14 Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.

Ponder: You are probably like most westerners, in that most days for you are packed with things to do. Many are necessary such as your roles at work as a parent and spouse. Some are things that are important to probably just you, but you want to accomplish them none-the-less. Then there are the things that abruptly interrupt your life while you’re diligently attempting to get your “have to” and your “want to” items done. Sometimes you probably sit down at the end of the day and can’t remember all that you did; you were operating on auto-pilot.

Today’s short but profound verse entails every facet of your day, every day. Did you catch that when you first read it? “Let everything you do, be done in love.” Most likely, with everything you did yesterday, you had a motive for doing it. Whatever that motive may have been, as a Christian, it should be motivated by love. Christlike love looks like respect, value, care, compassion, serving and generosity. Planting the seeds of love today will produce a harvest of joy, contentment in your life, and love from others in return.

Practice: How can you make sure that love is your motive for all that you do today?

Pray: Lord, your love is amazing. The value you have for me overwhelms me, as you suffered and died for me. Thank you for loving me with your everlasting love. And Lord, I pray that you will make love the motive for all that I say and do today. Help me to recognize the nudge of your Holy Spirit to guard against selfish attitudes and expressions, as well, to speak lovingly, encouragingly and sincerely today. Let the seed of your love produce fruit through me for your glory. AMEN.

Amen! I’m in agreement with the devotion and surrender myself to do everything in love. May I consider others before I consider myself while I put myself last and put God first then others in Jesus name, Amen!

This verse that I’ve read so many times took on new meaning today. How many times have I grumbled about having to do something. Washing dishes, washing the fourth load of towels for the week, picking up scattered toys, even going to church can start with “I have to”. Lord help me to cheerfully and with love go about my daily life. Let my every thought and deed be done in love.

Amen and agree that everything should be done in love. There are times we get busy and out flesh wants to direct our actions and attitudes but often I ask the Lord how do you see things and what should I do.
