Day 13: January 20, 2024
Planting Some More Seeds of Faith
Passage: 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 My speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
Ponder: Thanks to YouTube, I now have the knowledge to replace an alternator on a 2011 Ford Taurus. With the advancements of technology and media, there is more information available to the world today than at any other time in history. Everyone seems to have something they are an expert in. The third best-selling genre of books in 2023 were self-help or religious oriented. These came in right behind romance novels and crime thrillers. I guess when the romance is over, and you’re in trouble with the law, you begin to see the need for self-improvement and a little religion. It’s interesting that each author claims they have discovered the steps and practices that make a better you. But none seem to identify the same steps or practices. This is the epitome of man’s wisdom. Each man creates his own wisdom according to his will and his way.
I appreciate Paul’s attitude concerning man’s wisdom and God’s power. He knew the feebleness of man’s ability to know and understand all things. Paul knows that you and I need to understand that God’s wisdom is displayed through His power. Since man didn’t create the world, he can’t reasonably know its purpose and ways, though most think we can. But God, who by His power designed it, created it, and is sustaining it at this very moment, knows exactly how life operates. And with a seed of faith, you can know and trust that He knows how it all pertains to you today. Not only does He possess all-knowing wisdom concerning you, but He possesses all power to make His will and His way work for your good. Plant the seeds of faith today, relying on God’s will, His way and His wisdom.
Practice: What are you presently needing wisdom for in your life? You will find God’s wisdom about it in His Word.
Pray: Lord, I am aware of how feeble man’s wisdom is, and I am including myself. But I acknowledge that you are all knowing and your wisdom is far superior to mine. So, I look to you for the wisdom that I will need through this day. Amen.
