Scripture:
Malachi 3:8-10 NIV
"Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, 'How are we robbing you?' In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it."
Reflection:
These are strong words from God, but they reveal something important: when we withhold the tithe, we're not just keeping money—we're robbing God of the worship He deserves and robbing ourselves of the blessing He wants to give. The "curse" isn't God being vindictive; it's the natural consequence of trying to manage our resources without acknowledging His lordship. When we give God the first 10%, we redeem everything else. We break the curse of self-reliance and open ourselves to God's supernatural provision. Notice God's invitation: "Test me in this." This is the one area where God invites us to test His faithfulness. He's so confident in His ability to provide that He challenges us to try Him.
Prayer:
Father, I confess that sometimes I've held back from giving because of fear—fear that there won't be enough, fear that I can't afford to tithe. Forgive me for robbing You of worship and robbing myself of blessing. I want to trust You enough to test Your promise. Help me to bring the whole tithe, believing that You will open the floodgates of heaven and provide abundantly. Amen.
Action:
Calculate your current income and determine what the "whole tithe" (10%) would be. If you've been giving less, identify what fears or beliefs have held you back. Write them down, then write out Malachi 3:10 as a declaration of faith over those fears. Make a concrete plan to begin bringing the whole tithe to your local church, trusting God to prove His faithfulness.
