Grace That Strengthens and Sustains—God With Us in Every Trial

Scripture:
“I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”
(Philippians 1:6 NIV)
“I have said these things to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
(John 16:33 NIV)

Reflection:

Grace is not only the doorway into life with God—it is the power that carries us every day. The sermon highlighted how Paul, despite hardship, persecution, and weakness, was able to fulfill his calling because he relied on Christ’s sustaining grace. God’s presence does not remove all our struggles, but it gives us strength and peace in the midst of them.
Consider the story of Derek Redmond at the Olympics, referenced in the sermon: when Redmond collapsed in pain, his father ran to his side, supporting him to the finish. That’s a picture of God’s sustaining grace—He doesn’t always remove the hardship, but He promises, “I am with you. We will do this together.”
Paul experienced beatings, shipwreck, and imprisonment, yet he was able to write with confidence about God’s sustaining presence (2 Corinthians 11). When life feels overwhelming, God’s grace gives us the strength to take the next step. This grace is for every day—when you go to work, when you grieve, when you struggle. You are never alone.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your sustaining grace. When I am weak, You are strong. When I feel overwhelmed or alone, remind me that You are with me, strengthening and supporting me through every trial. Give me eyes to see Your hand at work in the ordinary and the difficult. Help me lean on You, not on my own strength.

Action:

Identify a current challenge or area of weakness. Each time anxiety or discouragement arises today, pause and pray: “Jesus, Your grace is enough. Sustain me.” Consider reaching out to someone you trust and sharing your struggle, inviting them to pray with you for God’s sustaining grace.
