Philippians 3:8
“I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.”
Reflection:
Paul’s words here are not theoretical—they reflect the hard-won perspective of a man who lost everything he once valued. His education, reputation, religious achievements, and social standing—all were willingly surrendered for the sake of knowing Jesus. This passage confronts us with the question: What is truly most valuable in our lives? Like the sermon’s illustration of a house fire, moments of crisis and pressure reveal what we really treasure. Paul’s testimony reminds us that even the best things in life—family, success, comfort—are ultimately “rubbish” compared to the living relationship with Christ.
