Scripture:
1 Peter 1:18-19
"For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect."
Reflection:
Peter calls it "precious blood"—the Greek word means "valuable, costly, of great worth." This is the most valuable thing you will ever possess. Not your home, your retirement account, your accomplishments, or your relationships. The blood of Jesus is your greatest treasure. You were ransomed—purchased at a price so high that silver and gold couldn't touch it. Only the life of God's perfect Son was sufficient payment. This is your story, your testimony: "I was a slave to sin, living an empty way of life, but Jesus paid for my freedom with His own blood. I have been redeemed. I am no longer my own—I've been bought with a price." When you truly grasp the value of what you possess in the blood of Jesus, everything else loses its luster. This is the pearl of great price. This is the treasure hidden in the field. Everything else is rubbish compared to knowing Christ and the power of His blood in your life.
Prayer:
Jesus, forgive me for the times I've treated Your blood casually, for the times I've valued other things more than this precious treasure You've given me. Open my eyes to see the true worth of Your blood—that I've been purchased at the highest price heaven could pay. Thank You that I am no longer a slave but a redeemed child of God. Help me live today with gratitude for this costly gift. Let my life be a testimony to the power and preciousness of Your blood. Amen.
Action:
Write out your personal testimony in three parts: (1) What you were redeemed FROM (your empty way of life, your slavery to sin); (2) What price was paid (the precious blood of Jesus); (3) What you are redeemed TO (freedom, holiness, relationship with God). Share this testimony with at least one person this week—either someone who doesn't know Jesus or someone who needs to be reminded of the power of His blood. Remember Revelation 12:11: "They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony."
