1 John 4:1
"Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world."
Reflection:
We live in an era of unlimited information—podcasts, social media, streaming content, news cycles that never stop. Anyone can create a platform and speak with authority. The sermon reminded us that even well-meaning voices can spread deception when they're not anchored in Jesus. Like a banker who studies genuine currency so intently that counterfeits become obvious, we must know Jesus so well that we immediately recognize teaching that doesn't align with Him. The issue isn't being suspicious of everyone—it's being so saturated in truth that lies lose their appeal. When someone claims to blend Christianity with Buddhism, Islam, and other religions, pointing to "the same truth," we should feel the dissonance immediately. Not because we're judgmental, but because we know Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Truth is exclusive because Jesus is a person, not a philosophy.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, You are the Spirit of Truth. Give me sharp discernment in this age of deception. Help me test everything I hear against the truth of Scripture and the character of Jesus. Protect me from teachings that sound good but lead away from You. Make me so familiar with Your voice that I recognize immediately when something is off. Guard my mind and heart from the enemy who masquerades as an angel of light. Keep me anchored to Jesus alone. Amen.
Action:
Think about the voices that influence you most—podcasts you listen to, social media accounts you follow, teachers or leaders you learn from. Today, evaluate three of them: Do they consistently point you toward Jesus and biblical truth, or do they blend worldly wisdom with Scripture? Are they leading you closer to Christ or subtly pulling you away? Unfollow or stop consuming content from any source that's leading you away from Jesus, and replace it with one that clearly upholds biblical truth.
