The Blessings You Risk Losing

Scripture:
Joshua 1:7
"Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go."

Reflection:
Joshua stood at a pivotal moment. The previous generation had lost the Promised Land because of disobedience—they refused to trust God when He called them forward, and they spent forty years wandering in circles. Now Joshua faced the same choice: immediate obedience or delayed disobedience. God's promise was clear: success would follow obedience. Here's what we often miss: when we weigh the cost of obedience, we focus on what we might lose—our comfort, our plans, our control, our reputation. But we rarely consider what we're already losing through disobedience. Every day you delay obeying God is a day you forfeit the blessing, favor, and breakthrough He has waiting for you on the other side of that obedience. What relationships are strained because you won't forgive? What opportunities are passing by because you won't step out in faith? What peace are you missing because you won't surrender that worry? What provision are you forfeiting because you won't obey in giving? Disobedience doesn't just cost you heaven someday—it costs you abundant life today. The real question isn't "What will obedience cost me?" but "What is disobedience already costing me?"

Prayer:

Lord, open my eyes to see what I'm losing through my disobedience. I've been so focused on protecting what I have that I've failed to see what You want to give me. Forgive me for the ways my delayed obedience has kept me circling in the wilderness when You've called me into the Promised Land. I don't want to spend another season wandering when You've prepared a place of blessing and purpose for me. Give me Joshua's courage to move forward in obedience, trusting that You go before me and behind me. I'm ready to stop turning to the right or left and walk straight in Your path. In Jesus' name, amen.

Action:

Reflect honestly: What specific area of disobedience has become "normal" in your life? It might be unforgiveness toward someone, resistance to God's call on your career, ignoring promptings to serve, withholding in generosity, or compromising in purity. Write it down. Then beside it, list what this disobedience is actually costing you—in peace, relationships, spiritual growth, or opportunity. Finally, write out one concrete step of obedience you'll take this week to move out of the wilderness and into your promised land. Share this commitment with a trusted friend who will pray for you and hold you accountable. Remember: the blessing is on the other side of your obedience.
