Scripture:
Philippians 2:8
"And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!"
Reflection:
Jesus is our ultimate model of obedience. He became obedient to the point of death—the most radical act of surrender imaginable. His obedience meant dying to His own comfort, His own preferences, His own life. And that same call echoes to us: our obedience requires dying to our own agenda. This isn't morbid—it's liberation. When we die to our need for control, we discover freedom. When we die to our insistence on comfort, we find purpose. When we die to our way, we encounter His better way. The beauty of the Christian life is this: what looks like death is actually the doorway to resurrection life. What you surrender, God resurrects into something far more beautiful than you could create on your own. The question isn't whether you'll die to something—it's whether you'll trust God enough to let go.
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for Your perfect obedience that brought salvation to the world. You didn't cling to comfort or control—You trusted the Father completely, even to death. Give me that same trust. Help me die daily to my own agenda, my own plans, my need to be in control. I want to follow You with the same wholehearted surrender You modeled. Whatever You're asking me to lay down, I choose to release it into Your hands. Resurrect in me whatever You desire. In Your name, amen.
Action:
Write down one thing—a dream, a relationship, a plan, a comfort, a habit—that God is asking you to surrender. In a tangible act of obedience, symbolically "die" to it today. This might mean writing it down and tearing it up, praying over it and releasing it, or taking a specific action that demonstrates you're letting go. Then watch expectantly for what God will do in that space you've created through surrender.
