Purified, Not Just Covered

  Scripture:
"To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood." (Revelation 1:5 NIV)
"Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness." (Hebrews 9:22 NIV)

 Reflection:

In the Old Testament, animal sacrifices could only cover sin temporarily—they couldn't cure or cleanse it. That's why the priests had to continually offer sacrifices, standing day after day at their service, never finished. But Jesus' blood is infinitely more powerful. His sacrifice doesn't just cover your sin—it removes it. The word "freed" in Revelation 1:5 means you've been released from sin's bondage and power. You don't have to sin anymore. The marks and stains of sin are washed away. This is not temporary relief but permanent transformation. Jesus didn't just make you look clean on the outside while leaving you dirty inside. He purified you completely, once and for all.

  Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You that Your blood doesn't just cover my sin but completely removes it. I confess that sometimes I still live as though I'm in bondage to patterns and habits that You've already freed me from. Help me believe that I truly am purified, that the marks of my past are washed away. Give me the power to walk in the freedom You've purchased for me. I don't have to keep returning to what once enslaved me. Amen.

  Action:

Identify one area where you're still living as though you're in bondage to sin—a habit, thought pattern, or behavior you feel powerless to change. Today, bring it specifically to Jesus, acknowledging that His blood has already freed you from its power. Ask Him to help you believe you're truly purified and to walk in that freedom. If needed, share this struggle with a trusted Christian friend who can pray with you and hold you accountable.
