Scripture:
John 15:4-5
"Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing."
Reflection:
Jesus made it clear: you can't do what He's called you to do without Him. Apart from Him, you can do nothing of eternal value. But here's the beautiful promise—when you abide in Him, when you stay connected to the vine, He produces fruit through you. You don't manufacture it; you receive it.
Abiding isn't complicated. It's simply staying close. It's starting your day acknowledging Him. It's bringing your thoughts back to Him throughout the day. It's reading His Word and letting it renew your mind. It's talking to Him in the ordinary moments. It's choosing worship over worry.
Jesus is sustaining you, but the way you experience that sustaining power is through abiding. Stop striving. Start abiding. Watch what He does when you simply stay close.
Prayer:
Jesus, I want to abide in You—not just visit You on Sundays, but live connected to You every moment. Forgive me for the times I've tried to produce fruit on my own, for the striving and the exhaustion that comes from doing life apart from You. Teach me what it means to rest in You while You work through me. I surrender my agenda and ask You to produce Your fruit in my life. Amen.
Action:
Set three alarms on your phone today at different times. Label them: "Abide." When each alarm goes off, pause whatever you're doing for 60 seconds. Take a deep breath and pray: "Jesus, I'm abiding in You right now. You are sustaining me. Work through me today." Notice how this simple practice changes your perspective on the day. Consider making this a daily habit.
