Scripture:
John 1:4-5, 9
"In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it... The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world."
Reflection:
For 400 years before Jesus came, God's people heard no prophetic word. Silence. Darkness. They had the Law, the temple rituals, the religious structures—but no fresh revelation, no clear voice from heaven. Then Jesus arrived as the Light breaking into that darkness. He didn't come as a flickering candle that might be blown out or a reflected light that depends on another source. He came as the TRUE light—self-existent, brilliant, life-giving. And here's the promise that should electrify your faith: the darkness has NOT overcome it. Whatever darkness you're facing today—depression, confusion, spiritual attack, family chaos, financial pressure, hidden sin—the Light of Jesus is greater. The enemy wants you to believe the darkness is winning, that you're losing ground, that hope is fading. But Scripture declares the opposite: darkness cannot overcome the Light. When Jesus enters a situation, darkness must retreat. He is not just stronger than your darkness—He obliterates it with His very presence.
Prayer:
Jesus, You are the Light of the World, and darkness cannot stand in Your presence. I invite Your light into every dark corner of my life today—the places I've hidden, the fears I've nursed, the sins I've concealed, the wounds I've buried. Shine Your truth into my confusion. Bring Your hope into my despair. Expose the lies I've believed and replace them with Your truth. I reject the enemy's narrative that darkness is winning. You have already overcome, and because You live in me, I am a child of light. Let Your light shine through me today so others can see the way to You. Amen.
Action:
Identify one area of spiritual darkness in your life (doubt, fear, temptation, confusion). Speak John 1:5 over it out loud: "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." Then pray specifically for Jesus to bring His light into that situation. If the Holy Spirit reveals hidden sin, confess it immediately and receive His cleansing (1 John 1:9).
