Measuring Your Motives

 Scripture:
Mark 10:21-22
"Jesus looked at him and loved him. 'One thing you lack,' he said. 'Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.' At this the man's face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth."

 Reflection:

The rich young ruler looked good on the outside—moral, religious, sincere. But Jesus revealed his true motive: money had taken God's place in his heart. We tend to evaluate ourselves by what we do, but God examines why we do it. The Bible measures our motives, exposing self-interest disguised as helpfulness, pride masking itself as "just being honest," or control hiding behind "trying to help." This isn't condemnation—it's love. God wants to free you from motives that keep you from experiencing His best.

 Prayer:

Father, search my heart and reveal my true motives. Show me where I've deceived myself about why I do what I do. Expose self-centeredness, pride, jealousy, or control that I've justified or hidden. I want my motives to honor You and reflect Your love. Amen.

 Action:

Reflect on a recent conflict or decision. Ask yourself: "What was my real motive?" Be ruthlessly honest. Confess any impure motives to God and ask Him to transform your heart. If needed, make amends with someone you've hurt
