Walking Humbly with God

Scripture:
"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up." - James 4:10

Reflection:

The third requirement God gives is to walk humbly with Him. Humility isn't weakness—it's strength under control. It's recognizing that apart from God, we can do nothing of eternal value, but with Him, all things are possible.
Walking humbly means we don't approach God with our achievements, our offerings, or our impressive résumés, hoping to earn His favor. Israel tried that approach—"Should we bring burnt offerings? A thousand rams? Ten thousand rivers of oil?" They kept raising the ante, thinking they could purchase God's approval. But God said, "No—I just want you to walk with Me."
Humility is being honest about where we are, confessing when we've failed, and admitting when we need help. It's the opposite of the self-sufficient, pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps mentality the world celebrates. It means acknowledging that we need God's presence, His wisdom, His strength every single day. And when we humble ourselves, God promises to lift us up in His timing.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I confess that I often try to manage my life without truly depending on You. Forgive me for the pride that makes me think I can do it on my own. I need You every moment of every day. Teach me to walk humbly before You, to seek Your wisdom, and to trust Your timing. Help me to be quick to confess, quick to admit my need, and quick to turn to You. Amen.

Action:

Set aside time today for honest conversation with God. Confess an area where you've been trying to handle things in your own strength. Ask Him for help, wisdom, or provision in that specific area. Write down what you sense Him saying to you, and commit to walking in dependence on Him.
