Feasting on God's Word

Scripture:
Jeremiah 15:16
"When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart's delight, for I bear your name, Lord God Almighty."

 Reflection:

What a beautiful picture Jeremiah paints! He didn't just read God's words - he ate them. He consumed them. He took them in so completely that they became part of him, nourishing him from the inside out.
Think about how you approach a meal when you're truly hungry. You don't just look at the food and admire it. You don't just read the recipe. You don't just smell it and walk away. You eat it. You take it into your body. It becomes part of you, giving you energy, strength, and sustenance.
That's how Jeremiah approached God's Word. And notice the result - joy and heart's delight. Not duty. Not drudgery. Not obligation. Joy. Delight.
The sermon reminded us that God's Word is meant to change us, transform us, equip us. But it can only do that if we consume it. You can't be nourished by food you never eat. You can't be transformed by Scripture you never read.
Here's the question: Are you hungry for God's Word? Do you approach it with anticipation, knowing it will satisfy the deepest hunger of your soul? Or do you treat it like medicine - something you know you should take but don't really want to?
Jeremiah found joy in God's Word because he understood something crucial: "I bear your name, Lord God Almighty." He belonged to God. He was God's representative. And God's Word reminded him of his identity, his purpose, his calling.
The same is true for you. You bear God's name. You're His child, His ambassador, His beloved. And when you feast on His Word, it reminds you of who you are and whose you are. That's why it brings joy - not just information, but transformation. Not just knowledge, but identity.
Personalize It:  Put your name in this passage:
"When Your words came to [YOUR NAME], [YOUR NAME] ate them; they were [YOUR NAME]'s joy and [YOUR NAME]'s heart's delight, for [YOUR NAME] bears Your name, Lord God Almighty."
Now make it present tense and personal:
"Lord, when Your words come to me today, I will eat them. They will be my joy and my heart's delight, for I bear Your name, Lord God Almighty."

 Prayer:

Father, forgive me for the times I've treated Your Word like an obligation instead of a feast. Forgive me for the times I've approached it with duty instead of delight. Give me Jeremiah's hunger - a deep craving for Your Word that can only be satisfied by consuming it daily. Help me not just to read Your Word, but to eat it - to take it in so completely that it becomes part of me, nourishing my soul, strengthening my spirit, and reminding me of whose I am. Let Your Word be my joy and my heart's delight today and every day. In Jesus' name, Amen.

 Action:

Today, approach your Bible reading as a feast, not a duty:
  1. Prepare - Before you read, pray: "Lord, I'm hungry for You. Feed me through Your Word today."
  2.  Savor - Don't rush. Read slowly. Let each verse settle in your spirit. Chew on it. Taste it. Let it nourish you.
  3.  Consume - Choose one verse that particularly speaks to you. Write it down. Memorize it. Meditate on it throughout the day. Let it become part of you.
  4.  Delight - After reading, write down one reason God's Word brought you joy today. What did it remind you about God? About yourself? About your identity as His child?
  5.  Share - Tell someone today about what you "ate" from God's Word and how it nourished you. Let your delight in Scripture encourage others to feast as well.
