Scripture:
2 Peter 1:21
"For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."
Reflection:
Imagine a ship caught in a powerful storm—the little rudder can't control it anymore. The vessel is still useful, still intact, but it's being carried along by forces greater than itself. That's the picture Peter gives us of how Scripture was written. These weren't men sitting around imagining a higher power. They were God-fearing people going about their lives when suddenly the Spirit of God gripped them with revelation they couldn't contain.
Jeremiah described it as "fire shut up in my bones"—he couldn't not speak what God gave him. Joel received visions of the last days. Moses encountered God in a burning bush. John saw the risen Christ on Patmos. They were carried along, compelled by the Spirit to write what God breathed into them.
This is why you can trust Scripture. It's not human opinion—it's divine revelation, preserved through millennia, tested by archaeology, confirmed by fulfilled prophecy, and proven in transformed lives.
Prayer:
Father, I stand in awe that You chose to reveal Yourself through written Word. Thank You for the faithfulness of those who were carried along by Your Spirit to write what You breathed. Thank You for preserving Scripture through every attempt to destroy it. Increase my confidence in Your Word. Let me read it not as ancient literature but as Your living voice to me today. Amen.
Action:
Research one fulfilled biblical prophecy this week (such as Isaiah 53 about the Messiah, or Ezekiel 37 about Israel's restoration). Let the evidence of God's faithfulness strengthen your confidence in His Word.
