Scripture:
John 17:17
"Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth."
Reflection:
Jesus prayed this prayer for His disciples, and by extension, for all of us who believe in Him. To be sanctified means to be made holy—set apart for God's purposes. And Jesus tells us exactly how this happens: through truth. Specifically, through God's Word.
We don't become holy by trying harder, following more rules, or earning God's approval. We become holy as we immerse ourselves in God's truth, allowing it to transform how we think, what we value, and how we live. God's Word exposes lies we've believed, corrects wrong thinking, and aligns our hearts with His.
In a world that says "your truth is your truth and my truth is my truth," Jesus declares there is objective truth—God's Word—and that truth has the power to set us apart and make us holy.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I want to be sanctified—set apart for Your purposes. Sanctify me through Your truth. Let Your Word wash over my mind, correcting false beliefs and replacing lies with truth. Help me not just to read Your Word, but to be transformed by it. Make me holy as You are holy, not through my own effort, but through the power of Your truth working in my life. Amen.
Action:
Identify one lie you've believed about yourself, God, or life. Find a Scripture verse that speaks truth into that area. Write it on a notecard and place it somewhere you'll see it multiple times today. Speak this truth out loud each time you see it, allowing God's Word to sanctify your thinking.
