Scripture:
Jude 1:3-4
"Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ."
Reflection:
Jude had planned to write an encouraging letter about salvation, but the Holy Spirit redirected him to write an urgent warning instead: contend for the faith. The word "contend" means to fight for, to defend vigorously. Why? Because false teachers were creeping into the church unnoticed, twisting God's grace into a license for sin and denying the lordship of Christ. Sound familiar? In our generation, we face the same challenge. Progressive Christianity and other movements are rewriting Scripture to accommodate cultural trends rather than calling culture to God's standards. Like Adam who stood silent while Eve was deceived, we cannot afford to stay quiet. Contending for the faith doesn't mean being mean or rude—it means knowing what we believe, why we believe it, and lovingly but firmly standing on God's unchanging truth. Our family members, friends, and community need us to speak up with grace and conviction.
Prayer:
Father, forgive me for the times I've stayed silent when truth was being twisted. Give me courage to contend for the faith—not with anger or harshness, but with love and unwavering conviction. Help me know Your Word so well that I can gently correct false teaching and point people back to You. Make me bold but humble, strong but compassionate. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Action:
Think of one person in your life who may be drifting from biblical truth or being influenced by false teaching. Pray for them by name today. Then ask God for wisdom about how and when to have a gentle conversation with them. Don't attack—simply ask questions and point them back to Scripture with love.
