Scripture:
Romans 3:23
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Reflection:
The word "sin" in Greek is hamartia—an archery term meaning "to miss the mark." Just as an arrow flies off course when it's bent, our lives veer away from God's intended purpose when we live under our own rule rather than His. We all carry a bent—toward greed, pride, lust, or self-reliance—that causes us to miss the target God has set for our lives. The hardest truth to accept is often the simplest: we can't hit the mark on our own. We need someone to straighten what's been bent.
But here's the beginning of good news: God doesn't hide the target or change the rules. He shows us exactly where we've missed and offers to make us whole. Acknowledging that we've sinned isn't defeat—it's the first step toward freedom.
Prayer:
Father, I confess that I have missed the mark You set for my life. I've lived under my own rule, following my own bent rather than Your purpose. I agree with You that I am a sinner in need of Your grace. Straighten what is bent in me. Give me the humility to see where I've gone off course and the courage to turn back to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Action:
Take a few minutes today to reflect honestly on one area where you've been living under your own rule rather than God's. Write it down, confess it to God, and thank Him that His forgiveness is already extended through Jesus.
