Worship for Who He Is

Scripture:
Luke 19:37-38
"When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: 'Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!'"

Reflection:
The crowd praised Jesus for what they had seen Him do—the healings, the miracles, the demonstrations of power. Their worship was based on His performance. But true worship acknowledges who Jesus is, regardless of what He does for us. There's a profound difference between praising God for His blessings and worshiping Him for His character. The crowd's praise turned to "Crucify Him!" by week's end because their devotion was conditional. When Jesus didn't meet their expectations of a conquering political king, they abandoned Him. This challenges us deeply: If Jesus never does another thing for you—never answers another prayer the way you want, never heals, never provides—is He still worthy of your worship? True worship says, "Even if not, He is still God. He is still King. He is still worthy."

Prayer:

Jesus, forgive me for the times my worship has been more about what You do than who You are. You are the Lamb of God, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords—whether You answer my prayers the way I want or not. Teach me to worship You in the valleys as passionately as I do on the mountaintops. You alone are worthy. Amen.

Action:

Spend 10 minutes in worship today without asking God for anything. Focus entirely on His character—His holiness, His faithfulness, His love, His sovereignty. Declare who He is, not what you need from Him.
