Scripture:
"For we walk by faith, not by sight." — 2 Corinthians 5:7 (ESV)
"Jesus said to her, 'Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?'" — John 11:40 (ESV)
Reflection:
The world says, "Seeing is believing." Jesus flips this upside down: "Believing is seeing." Mary and Martha wanted to see Lazarus alive before they believed. Jesus asked them to believe first, and then they would witness the miracle.
Faith requires action before evidence appears. The Israelites had to march toward the Promised Land before they experienced its abundance. They had to step forward while the giants were still there. Forty years later, a new generation did exactly that—and the giants fell.
James reminds us that faith without works is dead. It's not enough to mentally agree that God can do something. True faith moves your feet, opens your mouth, and changes your behavior based on what God has promised—even when you can't yet see the outcome.
What step of obedience is God asking you to take today, even though you can't see how it will work out?
Prayer:
Lord, I confess that I often wait to see before I'm willing to believe and act. Forgive my hesitation and my need for proof. Give me the courage to step out in faith, trusting Your promises even when the path ahead is unclear. Help me remember that You are the substance of my faith—not my circumstances. I choose to act on what You've said, not on what I can see. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Action:
Identify one specific action God has been prompting you to take but you've been waiting for more clarity or certainty. Take one concrete step toward that obedience today—make the call, have the conversation, give the gift, or start the project.
