What Pagans Chase

Scripture:
Matthew 6:31-32
"So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them."

 Reflection:
To "run after" means to chase, obsess over, and build your entire life around something. Jesus warns that when material concerns become our primary pursuit, we're living like those who don't know God. We become responsible for everything, and the stuff that was supposed to serve us begins to control us. The more we accumulate, the more we worry about maintaining, protecting, and managing it all. But here's the beautiful truth: your heavenly Father already knows what you need. He's not surprised by your bills, your health concerns, or your children's futures. The question isn't whether God knows—it's whether you'll trust Him with what He already knows.

 Prayer:

Lord, forgive me for the times I've chased after security, approval, and fulfillment in things rather than in You. I confess that I've let material concerns occupy the throne of my heart that belongs to You alone. You know every need I have before I even ask. Help me trust Your provision rather than obsess over my own plans. Teach me to seek You first and watch You provide. Amen.

 Action:

Do an honest audit this week: What gets the "first" of your time, thoughts, and money? Look at your calendar, your bank statement, and your morning routine. What patterns reveal where your heart truly is? Identify one area where you need to reorder your priorities and make one concrete change.
