Scripture:
Deuteronomy 8:18
"You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day."
Reflection:
We often take credit for our success, thinking "I worked hard for this money." But God reminds us that He is the one who gives us the ability to produce wealth. The rich man's land produced plentifully—but he couldn't make the sun rise, couldn't make it rain, couldn't control the seasons. God orchestrates all of these. Yes, we must work, plow, and plant, but ultimately God provides the increase. When we forget this, our riches blind us to God's presence and provision. Acknowledging God as the source of our ability to work and earn keeps our hearts humble and grateful.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for giving me the ability to work and provide. I confess that I sometimes forget that every good gift comes from You. Help me remember that my job, my skills, my opportunities—all come from Your hand. May I never take credit for what You have provided. Teach me to acknowledge You in all my ways. Amen.
Action:
Before you start work today, pray and thank God specifically for the ability He's given you—your health, your mind, your skills, your job. If you receive any income today, immediately thank God for it before thinking about how you'll spend it.
