Where Your Treasure Is

   Scripture:
Matthew 6:19-21
"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

  Reflection:

Jesus isn't giving financial advice—He's revealing the theology of worship. Our hearts naturally follow what we treasure most. The sermon reminded us that everything we acquire on earth will eventually be re-gifted, auctioned off, or tossed away. Nothing material goes with us. The question isn't whether we have possessions, but whether our possessions have us. What captures your attention, your time, your energy? That's where your treasure—and therefore your heart—truly is.

  Prayer:

Lord Jesus, search my heart today. Show me where I've allowed material things to compete with You for first place in my life. I confess that sometimes I find more security in my bank account than in Your faithfulness. Forgive me for the times I've valued earthly treasures over eternal ones. Help me to treasure You above all else. Amen.

  Action:

Take an honest inventory today. Look at your bank statement, your calendar, and your recent purchases. Ask yourself: "What do these reveal about what I truly treasure?" Write down one specific area where material concerns have been competing with your devotion to Christ, and commit it to prayer throughout the week.
