Built to Last Through Sacrifice

    Scripture:
Romans 12:1
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship."

  Reflection:

St. Paul's Chapel in New York City has stood for over 250 years because people built it for generations they would never meet, preserved it through sacrifice, and used it to serve others in their darkest hour. The church that lasts isn't built on preferences or comfort—it's built on sacrifice. We are the spiritual sacrifices Peter talks about—living stones offering ourselves fully to God's purposes. The question facing Victory Family Church isn't "What do I prefer?" but "What does the next generation need from us?" Are we willing to serve, send, and sacrifice now so that people we'll never know can encounter Jesus?

  Prayer:

Lord, I offer myself to You as a living sacrifice. My time, my resources, my preferences, my comfort—it's all Yours. Help me to live not for myself but for Your kingdom purposes. Show me where I need to sacrifice so that the next generation can thrive. Give me the courage to make room for younger leaders, to serve in ways that may not be glamorous, and to invest in a future I may not see. Build Your church through me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

  Action:

Ask yourself honestly: "What am I holding onto that God is asking me to sacrifice for the sake of His mission?" It might be time, money, a preference, or control. Write down what comes to mind and commit it to God. Then take one concrete step this week to release it—whether that's signing up to serve, giving financially, or stepping back to make room for someone else to lead.
These devotions are designed to help you continue processing and applying the "Built to Last" message throughout your week. Share them with someone else who needs encouragement!
