Day 18: January 26, 2023
BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING
LET’S READ
2 CORINTHIANS 9:10 He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.”
LET’S CONSIDER
Let’s talk agriculture for a moment. Particularly, one of God’s special gifts to mankind, the watermelon. Not only sweet, juicy, and refreshing on a hot Texas evening, but it’s the perfect picture of God’s unchanging law of sowing and reaping. Get this- one watermelon seed can produce two to four watermelons. One watermelon can produce from 200 to 800 seeds. Just using the low end of these averages, if you plant one seed and reap two melons, you have access to 400 more seeds. Your middle school math teacher would tell you that you now have the potential to replant those seeds and have yourself a harvest of at least 80,000 more melons.
Let’s just agree, watermelon is good, but too much of a good thing isn’t always good. It’s time to give some melons to those without, and seeds to those with no seeds. God’s law of sowing and reaping says that if you sow what He blesses you with, you will reap an overflow of His provision. In fact, you’ll reap in such a fashion as to have ample provision to generously share with others. And sharing just makes more room for an even greater overflow. Just like how too much watermelon can overwhelm you, keeping all of God’s overflow in your life for yourself will add overwhelming stress to your days. Begin to see what you have, be content, and be willing to replant some of it in the soil of others’ souls, that they may experience God’s overflow as well.
LET’S ACT
What has the Lord given you in the way of financial blessing that you can share with someone else? When will you share with them?
LET’S PRAY
Lord, I know that I am the recipient of your overflow, and I thank you. Help me to take some steps of faith and share your blessings with others at a greater level than I have before. I know that in doing so, you will see that my supply of seed increases and my needs will be met. Thank you for your faithfulness and generosity. Amen.
