Day 13: January 21, 2023
TAKE HOLD AND TAKE OFF
LET’S READ
Acts 1:4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” 6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
LET’S CONSIDER
I was asked not long ago why I took up horseback riding at my age. I responded that I wanted to overcome some childhood fears after having fallen off a horse, and to learn to be a horseman. I have always had a love and appreciation for horses. Now that I am more closely involved with my own horse, Jack, I am gaining a great respect for the equine species. Weighing approximately 1,000 lbs., a horse is strong enough to pull up to three times their weight, carry over 400 lbs. on their back, bite with a force of over 500 PSI, and kick hard enough to kill a human. Horses pack a lot of power, and when properly broke and harnessed, their power becomes very productive in many ways.
Jesus tells you that you can receive power to become productive in His Kingdom. In fact, as He indicated to the disciples, we all have a calling to carry out, but we can’t do it without first receiving the power of His Spirit. The word Jesus uses is translated into English as “receive.” In the Greek, which the New Testament was first translated into, it means “take hold of.” In Texan we would say “harness it.” What Jesus is telling them and you today is that Kingdom power is available to you through the Holy Spirit living in you. Today, you are to harness the power and go forward in living, being, doing, saying and following His Spirit of power, taking His Kingdom purposes wherever you find yourself. So, choose to take hold of the Spirit’s power as you take off into this day.
LET’S ACT
What is taking hold of the Spirit’s power look like for you in your present season of life?
LET’S PRAY
Lord, it’s a humbling honor to know you call me to your Kingdom purposes. Humbling to know you would call me in my weakness and personal inability. Honoring to realize you equip me with your power to live out your purposes. Lord, show me what it is for me to take hold and harness that anointing of power today. Amen.
