Overflow Devotional Day 12

KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE

Day 12: January 20, 2023

LET’S READ
Ephesian 3:20 “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

LET’S CONSIDER
A few years ago, I attended a meeting in which the sponsors gave each pastor a bag with different brochures and information concerning ministries in the Holy Land.  Upon returning to my office, I rather hastily put the plastic bag in the corner of my study. More than a year later, I dumped the contents of the bag out on my desk, and heard a thud. I opened up a small velvet bag and found a shard of pottery and a note stating that this was a genuine, ancient artifact unearthed recently in digs around the Temple mount. It dates back to between 1000 BC to AD 68. That’s crazy! I possessed this unique and valuable gem that may have been present at the time of Jesus for over a year, and never knew I had it. Today, I cherish it, and share it with others who visit my office.

There are many Christians, true followers of Christ, who though they have received the Spirit of Christ in fullness into their lives, don’t realize what they have. Paul makes it clear in today’s reading that there is much that God can and wants to do in us and through us. In fact, far more than we can even imagine. And he states that His power and ability to accomplish it, presently resides in those who are born of the Spirit. The very power of God is already present and available. Yet, we often call out to God to send His power down and change our situation. Friend, be encouraged today in realizing that God’s power is already in you; cherish that precious gift of His Spirit. And whatever you do, don’t keep the Holy Spirit confined to a small corner of your life. Turn His presence and power loose, through steps of faith and obedience today, and experience more of God’s overflow than you could ask, think, or imagine.

LET’S ACT
How to do you practice keeping an awareness of God’s active power at work in you?

LET’S PRAY
Lord, I am in awe of the fact that you have deposited your Holy Spirit in my life in overflowing measure. And fascinated that your power is at work in me today. Lord, I surrender myself to your work in transforming, and your will to use me to display your power through. Amen.
