Day 9: January 17, 2023
WHAT GOES UP ALWAYS COMES DOWN
LET’S READ
Acts 1:1-4 In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, 2 until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. 3 He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. 4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
LET’S CONSIDER
There is a law that transcends to the beginning of time. It is an unchanging law, and it is a most critical law to your existence. What is this unseen, principal at work over you in this very moment? It’s the law of gravity. The scientific definition is beyond my paygrade to understand, much less explain. Suffice it to say, the critical nature of gravity is that it is the very force that is holding you in your seat and keeping you from being flung into the deepest realms of outer space. Because of gravity, anything that goes up, will most certainly come back down.
Now consider the gravity of these words of Jesus in reference to the Holy Spirit. He had told His disciples before His death and resurrection that when He ascended to the right hand of the Father, He would ask the Father to send down His Spirit on them, and even you. So, when Jesus ascended with the Spirit in Him, He then sent the Spirit back down to baptize His followers. He who went up, has now come back down in overflowing measure. Ask the Lord for, and anticipate a baptism (full immersion) of the Spirit over you today.
LET’S ACT
Are you presently experiencing the overflowing presence of God’s Spirit in your life? If so, how are responding? If not, ask Him to baptize you, and readily respond.
LET’S PRAY
Lord, I thank you for keeping your word and sending me your Holy Spirit to fill me and flow out of me. I ask you to give me an increase of the overflow of your Spirit today, and release that anointing through me to share the gospel to others and to touch others at their point of need. Amen.
