Day 6: January 14, 2023
Joyful
LET’S READ
Psalm 16:11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
LET’S CONSIDER
Not long ago, the Pew Research Center published their findings on what Americans tend to believe give them meaning in life. The results were from an elaborate system of multiple surveys asking the same things in different ways. Overwhelmingly, Americans feel that family is their greatest source of meaning and fulfillment. After that, the responses were widely varied, from finances, careers, friendships and so on. Religion of faith was mixed in as well, but lower in percentage. The Psalmist David found fulfillment and meaning in an altogether different way.
In today’s passage, David is seeking to know what makes a meaningful life. Of course, he goes to the right source, the Creator of life. In that pursuit, David discovers that the real purpose in life is to know the presence of God. It is in close communion with God that he is experiencing overflowing joy (fulfillment, contentment, and satisfaction). You find the same as you make intimate communion with God the pursuit of your life. Deciding to pursue God closely in prayer, the reading of His Word, and worship, you will begin to recognize His presence and the overflow of joy in your life.
LET’S ACT
How fulfilled and satisfied do you feel deep in your heart with life right now? How would pursuing closer intimacy with the Lord change that?
LET’S PRAY
Lord, I thank you for the life you have given me to live, and for the salvation that has made my life worth living. I desire to fulfill the purpose in life for which you have saved me. Please help me to pursue deeper intimacy with you. Give me the strength and courage to cut loose the things that would hold back my pursuit, and draw me into your fulness of joy. Amen.
