Day 2: January 10, 2023
The Richness of God’s Overflowing Love
LET’S READ
1 John 3:1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
LET’S CONSIDER
Yesterday, we considered the measure of God’s overwhelming love for us. Now let’s consider the richness of His love. Paul would tell us in Ephesians chapter three that God’s love is higher, longer, wider, and deeper than we can imagine. His love fills the perimeters of heaven. And John tells us that God’s overflow of love is “lavished” on us. To lavish means to; bestow something in generous and extravagant quantities. That’s a very rich love.
Lavishing- bestowing generously and extravagantly is what the rich do. They do it because they can. They have it to lavish it. And that my friend is the richness of God’s love for you. He has limitless quantity, and He delights in pouring it over you. You are the object of His lavish love today, as His child through your faith in His Son Jesus. You are an heir of God and coheir with Christ Jesus. Let that truth pour over your heart for just a moment. You’re in the embrace and care of the living, loving Heavenly Father today.
LET’S ACT
How does knowing God gives you all the love He has influence your thoughts, attitudes and actions?
LET’S PRAY
Lord, you are far more generous and extravagant than I can fully know. Yet, I ask you today to help me grasp what I can of this love you give to me. May you give me a keen awareness through this day of the richness of your love for me. Amen.
