21 Days of Prayer and Fasting Day 5

Day 5: January 14

Read:1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit.

Reflect: Perhaps those are four of the shortest verses in the entire Bible, but they pack within them a lot of affirmation concerning communing with Your Heavenly Father. Prayer, the state of communion and relationship with God, is all about attitude. A praying heart is an attitude that knows the joy of the Lord in spite of circumstances. It is a heart attitude that is in constant awareness of God’s presence and communes with Him continually. A praying heart is filled with an attitude of gratitude toward God.  And as we consider how difficult it may feel to know God’s will, Paul reminds us that a heart with a right attitude is His will for us in all circumstances. And any attitude other than a prayerful one only quenches the Spirit.

Respond: How closely do the attitudes of 1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 identify your attitude in regard to prayer and God? What attitude do you need the Lord to help you grow in this year?

Request: Lord, I appreciate the fact that you are with me always, and that I can trust you in every season and situation of my life. I ask that you will help me to have a proper attitude of heart that pleases you and holds tightly to you in the seasons of blessing as well as the seasons of testing. Keep me from ever grieving your Holy Spirit.
